Little Grand Canyon
Take a two-hour trip
Just head west on U.S. 98 to Columbia, go just past to Mississippi 4 4/587 to Morgan Town, veer right on Mississippi 587 and in about eight miles you're at Red Bluff - the little Grand Canyon. It's 400 feet high, got a paved parking lot, beautiful colors from purple, yellow, pink and orange. When you get out, cross the road, hold on to the kids - that's a 400-foot drop! OK, ready for a waterfall in Mississippi, well there's more than 20 within two hours of Hattiesburg. Take Interstate 59 and go almost all the way to Meridian. Stop at Dunn's Fall, a park run by Pat Harrison Water Parks. It has a 40-foot waterfall that splashes into the Chunky River, picnic tables, bathrooms and you can play and swim in the shallow river right there in the park. But it has limited services, just a bathroom at the entrance, and you are in hilly country. Plan on a short (two-hour) or long (four-hour) hike. Don't wear new shoes, and bring water - there is no water along the way, even though you will be following Clark Creek, and wading through it in some places. If you go here during a real dry spell, most of the waterfalls are puny or dried up, but a few days after rain, wow.Little Grand Canyon - News

We Swam the Grand Canyon: The True Story of a Cheap Vacation that Got a Little Out of Hand The true story of a cheap vacation that got a little out of hand. In 1955 Bill Beer and John Daggett, at the time both recently out of the military, and in their mid 20s, footloose, and more or less unemployed conceived the idea of swimming the Colorado River through the 279 miles of the Grand Canyon-principally because they couldn't afford a boat. This simple idea escalated into a national news story and has been one of the legends of the Grand Canyon ever since.
