Chrysler to build new truck in Windsor
Said that Fiat's Chrysler Canada division will start building a Dodge or Ram-branded pickup in the same Windsor, Ont., plant that also builds the Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans.The report said Chrysler briefed major suppliers privately about its future production of the new vehicle — dubbed the new TR Ram Life Style Truck and expected to start production in 2013 — at the company's world headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich.
In late 2009, as part of its takeover plans for the bankrupt Chrysler, Dodge and Ram truck brands, Italy's Fiat revealed long-term model plans through 2015 that included a vague image of a vehicle called “lifestyle truck” for 2013.
Like the Ridgeline, the new Dodge/Ram truck will more than likely be based on a unibody (or car-based) platform, in this case the front-wheel-drive Chrysler minivan chassis, instead of the more traditional body-on-frame chassis like the full-size Ram models.
Dodge has hinted at such a type of vehicle in the past.
In 2000, it displayed its Dodge MAXXcab concept , a four door sport utility pickup truck described as a “Passenger Priority Truck.”
Toyota back on top as most valuable car brand
Despite last year's massive recall campaign that saw millions of vehicles brought back to dealerships for repairs and fixes, Toyota has regained its position as the world's most valuable auto brand.
According to a survey that measured brand equity — based on interviews with more than 1 million consumers globally and an analysis of the financial and business performance of each company, compiled by the global research company Millward Brown — Toyota's brand value jumped 11 per cent to $24.2 billion for 2011, overtaking Germany's BMW , which was No. 1 last year in the automotive category.
Toyota had been the most valuable auto brand in the Millward Brown results every year from 2006 until 2009.
Germany's Mercedes-Benz moved to the No. 3 spot, overtaking Honda, after its brand value increased by 12 per cent.
Peter Walshe, Millward Brown global brand director, said Toyota's recalls had not dented consumers' confidence in the carmaker.
