Her latest creations, known as block houses, are made of old, recycled wood and the feedback has been huge because each design is unique and distinctive. The small block house comes in assorted styles including farms, schools, coffee shops, dog houses, wine shops and book shops as well as domestic dwellings. Most of them are painted under the concept of European and vintage patterns.

"All designs are fashioned from leftover wood used to create the large wooden furniture. We see great value in all materials and we fully use them whether small or large pieces," said Nisanath.

By profession, Nisanath is an interior designer. In addition, she also enjoys designing wooden furniture. Her creative ideas are displayed in her furniture shop, Roi-in, established in 2005.

A graduate of Silpakorn University's Faculty of Decorative Arts, Nisanath has been making wooden furniture including tables, chairs, benches, sofas, beds and cabinets for several decades.

"I do love art and handicrafts including wooden designs. I have been involved in this area of business for over two decades. Personally, I am rather low-tech. I don't like anything too luxurious, sophisticated and complicated. That is why I love wooden designs. They are simple yet classic and natural," she explained.

Most of her wooden innovations mirror her lifestyle.

"Simplicity is me. My thinking, lifestyle and the way I choose my personal items are so simple. I resort to wooden work because I think wooden art is tangible and, more importantly, the technology used to create wooden furniture is not complicated," she said.

Because of her passion for wooden crafts, she often feels so attached to her works and is unwilling to sell them to those like-minded.

"I am really fascinated by wood. Whenever the outcomes are gorgeous or unique, I always feel that I want to keep them with myself. But that is impossible because the numbers are huge," she said, laughing.

After designing large furniture for a long while, Nisanath came up with the idea to enhance her works with more colours and reduce their size. And she was right because her innovations were widely welcomed by many house lovers who are always looking for something novel and, most importantly, durable.

"I have decorated countless houses over the years. Now, it's an opportune time for me to 'build' my own houses that clearly reflect my passion, hence the block houses. All the designs look rather natural and raw. Some pieces have cracks and scars left in the wood naturally," she said.

Twig wreaths.

You could use any twig really, but I’m particularly fond of the ones made out of red dogwood branches. They hold their color, make a great Christmas gift, and look fantastic on a front door from September until whenever spring arrives in your neck of the woods. (Talk about low maintenance and cheap.) Since they last for years, these are a great craft to make and sell if you need to save money on your overhead costs. They are also an extremely affordable gift you can feel proud about giving to others. Here are some directions for how to make a basic twig wreath , in case you want to get started early for the holidays.

Birch bark painting.

White birch bark makes a striking background for floral paintings and other subjects. We received a gift one year of a painting of a pet of ours that had passed away. The artist had based it on a photo and added in the background. Framed, these pieces make a statement for several reasons. The shape of the piece of bark is random, making them visually interesting. The natural element brings a certain something, and the color contrast is significant. So again, if you’ve got serious artistic skills and access to a supply of fallen birch bark, you’ve got inexpensive decorating supplies and a possible birch bark painting product line as well.
