Buying a brand new gas grill can be pretty expensive. But did you know that you can make your own gas barbecue grill using old and new grill parts?

Why Build Your Own When You Can Buy?

Aside from saving money, you can also harness your building skills. If you had a hand in building your grill, you can easily fix it if there is anything wrong with it. You can also easily maintain it. Having a hand in building this kitchen equipment also allows you to create it in a way that will best suit your grilling needs. As you know, buying a brand new grill with the features you want can be quite challenging.

If you are ready to create your own grill, here are the steps you should follow:

Step 1: Find a cheap grill with useful and durable parts. You can mix and match parts for as long as they can work together. This will also allow you to choose the durable parts you want.

Step 2: Prepare your building tools. You will need wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers. Also don a pair of gloves to protect your hands while doing this project.

Step 3: Start removing the grill parts from the old grill that you can use to build a new one. Carefully remove the screws and do not forcefully pry the parts. Your goal is to avoid damaging those parts. Remove the propane tank and set it aside. Also remove the grates from the grill. If they are still in good condition, just rinse them in warm and soapy water to get rid of dirt and hardened oil.

Step 4: For charred parts, try cleaning them with wire brushes. However, you should check the parts if they appear thin. For those parts, they need to be completely replaced with a new one.

Step 5: Remove the hood of the grill. Pull out the springs found at the top portion of this kitchen equipment. Also remove the burner from the valves. Use pliers to carefully pry the valve pin. Once you have disassembled the burner, you can proceed to removing the ignitor. Remove the plastic side clips first to unlock the ignitor.

Step 6: Paint the hood and install it back to the grill. Purchase new slats and install them inside. Use the screwdriver to connect the screws to the grill interior. Connect the new burner to the gas collector box.

Step 7: Install the new grill grate to the floor part of the firebox. Use screws if you want tighter connection. Connect the tubes to the grate. Secure the connection of the tubes and the valves using wire clips.

Step 8: Install new ignitor to the burner. Use the same bolt to secure the ignitor in place. Make sure you have connected the wires properly. Connect the red wire to the end part of the ignitor. The black wire should be directly connected to the side of the ignitor.
